What stacking means
When someone plays a draw card at you, you normally draw the cards and lose your turn. With stacking, you can answer with a draw card of your own. The totals add up and the whole stack moves to the next player. Whoever can't stack takes every card in it.
In Zero Mercy the rule is simple: you can stack any draw card of equal or higher value. The colour doesn't matter while a stack is building.
What you can stack on what
Find the last draw card played, then read across to see what you can answer it with.
| Card played at you | You can stack | You can't stack |
|---|---|---|
| +2 | +2, +4, Wild Reverse +4, +6, +10 | Nothing smaller |
| +4 or Wild Reverse +4 | +4, Wild Reverse +4, +6, +10 | +2 |
| +6 | +6, +10 | +2, +4 |
| +10 | +10 | +2, +4, +6 |
A stack, card by card
Aisha plays a +2
The stack is +2.
Bilal answers with a +4
A +4 is higher than a +2, so it's allowed. The stack is now +6.
Sara adds a +6
The stack is now +12.
Omar has no draw card worth +6 or more
He draws all 12 cards. If that takes him to 25 cards, he's knocked out of the round.
Wild Reverse +4 and stacking
A Wild Reverse +4 counts as a +4. It turns play around first, so the stack goes to the player in the new direction. With two players, that's still your opponent.
Stacking in the Classic game
The Classic game on Zero Mercy keeps the traditional rule: no stacking. Instead, when a Wild +4 is played at you, you can challenge it. If the player had a card of the right colour, they were bluffing and draw 4 themselves. If they didn't, you draw 6.
Questions players ask
Can you stack a +4 on a +2?
Yes. In Zero Mercy you can stack any draw card of equal or higher value, so a +4 goes on a +2 and the total becomes +6.
Can you stack a +2 on a +4?
No. A +2 is lower than a +4, so you have to draw the stack or answer with a +4, +6 or +10.
Do the colours have to match when stacking?
No. While a stack is building, only the value matters, not the colour.
Can you stack in the Classic game?
No. The Classic game uses the traditional rule with no stacking, but you can challenge a Wild +4.
What happens if you cannot stack?
You draw every card in the stack and lose your turn. If that brings you to 25 cards, you are knocked out of the round.
